Gaulois came into this fixture on the back of 4 wins, and the only team which hasn't dropped points yet. On the other hand, we continued our difficult early season fixture list: in the first 4 games we have played the #1, #2 and #4 placed teams of last season, plus BFA, which finished 6th. But with already two wins under the belt, we were confident that we can repeat last season's upset, where we were the first team to beat Gaulois.

A strong squad was available for coach Alp, and we started strongly. On seven minutes Micha was played in on the left hand side, and he turned his defender and dispatched a rocket into the roof of the net, with his weaker left foot. Tommy "I have played for more teams than anyone else" Lim in goal had no chance. We continued to play exceptionally well and the ball circulated freely and easily. We kept the score line until half time, although it was Gaulois who came closest when they hit the post.

After the break, our flow was gone, and Gaulois was in the ascendency. They put more and more pressure on us. After 53 minutes we lost the ball in the build up, and a beautiful cross from the right found the onrushing Gaulois striker, who managed to head home, although he was surrounded by three GSOS defenders. A stunning goal, we don't see often on SuperVets pitches....Nothing to do for goalie Shaiful, who was a safe pair of hands throughout the game. Gaulois then took the lead on 59 minutes when we missed a few chances to clear the ball, which bobbled around in the box, only for a Gaulois striker to tap it in for their lead. A cheap goal to give away.

The last quarter of the game was much better again. We create chances and missed a couple of fairly easy ones. It simply was not meant to be. Gaulois, on the other side were always dangerous on the counter attack as we pushed more people forward.

In the end Gaulois walked away with three points, and the only joy we got from this game is the fact that we are on par with the top teams. If we can play for 80 minutes with the intensity and concentration of the first 40 minutes then we are a team which is difficult to beat. The first 40 minutes were among the best we have produced in the history of GSOS in my opinion.

We are off next week, before taking on Pirates on 17 October. We now have a few games which on paper look easier. So we cannot afford to drop points if we want to push for a top 3 finish.
