After a bitter 1:6 loss against the ruling champions CBD, in which we played well for 60 minutes, the coach told the team that we need to be able to keep our performance up for 80 minutes. BFA is a much improved team, quite physical and well organized.
Despite two dropouts we were able to field a strong starting 11, not least thanks to the last minute recruitment of Brian, who marshalled the defence with Chris Ang. After a very balanced first 20 minutes, in which both teams did not create too many chances, we took the lead after the water break when Amine, who had pushed up from the back finished clinically pouncing on a loose ball in the BFA box. BFA were unable to respond before the break.
The BFA team had a very loud half-time conversation, but it seemed to work, as they looked much better in the second half. They had a lot of the ball and missed a couple of opportunities, but then it was again Man of the Match Amine who finished with a neat strike from about 16 meters to double our lead. That looked like game, set and match, but BFA had other ideas. They were suddenly in the ascendency, and were awarded a penalty when their striker very smartly made contact with our defender. The ref had no choice. Joe got close to the ball, but it ended up in the back of the net. 2:1 with 20 minutes to go.
The last quarter saw chances at both ends, but we probably just about deservedly held on to the three points. The last quarter was particularly good in terms of really wanting the win. Everybody gave their best and we were able to bring the result over the line.
