Inspired by last week’s comprehensive victory, we went into our second league match against Les Bleus full of energy and optimism. Despite several enforced lineup changes due to injuries, travels, and other commitments, we fielded a strong, albeit lean squad of 15 players. Notably, Johannes Sprafke made his GSOS debut and was named in the starting lineup. The game kicked off at a high intensity from both teams. Unfortunately, after just 10 minutes, Schacher was forced off following a heavy collision. Gaulois quickly took advantage, stepping up their tempo and breaking the deadlock shortly before the water break. Tactical adjustments in the following twenty minutes did not yield the intended results and we went into halftime trailing 0–2. In an effort to turn things around, more radical formation changes were made after the interval. However, hopes for a comeback were soon dashed as Kris Kothen aggravated a long-standing groin injury and had to leave the pitch. While we continued pushing forward, further injuries and setbacks followed, and Gaulois showed their strength by adding to their tally. The match ended in a disappointing 0–6 defeat, leaving us with both a tough scoreline and an expanded injury list. We’ll have to put this one behind us and focus on regrouping for our next challenge against a strong Brazilian Vets side on Saturday, 27 September.
