An early Su

For many players it was an early Sunday morning kick-off at Greenridge secondary school against unbeaten Kamikaze.
However, after managing to find the entrance to the field, the team realized they might had a chance against the quirky and young looking opponents - the field had the same size as our beloved Swiss Club (!)
Or so we thought…
Under the scorching sun and high humidity levels the game commenced punctually at 11am and our starting squad immediately found themselves panicking while the opponent played clean passes through their formation. During the first 2 minutes, we didn’t even manage to touch the ball once and that made everyone even a bit more hectic than needed.
So be it, after the first corner for Kamikaze in the 4th minute, and some chaos in the penalty box on our side, the opposing team scored their first goal.
Around the 10th minute, despite still running around like headless chickens, the Germans got lucky. After a goal kick from Kamikaze’s goal keeper their defender thought it was a good idea to pass the ball into the empty goal. 1:1
Was that the spark we needed to get back into the game? Unfortunately not, as only minutes later an unmarked Kamikaze player scored the 1:2 after a nice cross into our penalty box.
During the first water break some changes were made and this seemed to give us the necessary momentum to get back into the game. We were now improving our game play and playing as a real team with nice combinations albeit not creating any chances. During the course of the second quarter not many more highlights came up except for a post shot by Kamikaze just before half time.
After kick-off for the 2nd half we further used the momentum and created a couple of chances. But only in the 55th minute, it was Hamza dancing around 3 Kamikaze players, passing the ball past the goalie and Dinh only had to tap it in to make it, at that point, a well-deserved 2:2. We now had a real chance of turning the tides. Sven’s yellow card in the 60th minute showed that we had the right attitude and passion to win this game.
However, shortly after, in the 60th minute, a Kamikaze player scored the 2:3, completely out of the blue. And we were lucky that in the 65th minute Christian’s massive save and Franz‘ slide tackle didn’t put us further behind. Just before the second water break, Florian’s wonderful cross to the far post was headed in by Dinh who was already on fire after getting a yellow card shortly before. 3:3
After the break, we quickly conceded the totally unnecessary 3:4. The team seemed to be mentally still in the water break and this goal broke the last resistance we had. We tried to create some chances after free kicks or throw-ins but all in vain. To make things worse, a clear foul on Simonyo in the 85th while running down the left side was not given by the ref and the direct counter attack led to the final score 3:5.
To be fair, Kamikaze won the game well-deserved. They basically turned all chances into goals and kept their cool throughout the game. We also played quite well but were not consistent enough to keep up with the opponent today.
