Electrifying Kick off to a new season in the X-League

After extensive team building activities of some lads the night before,
general spirit as well as expectations were both flying high.
The good omen to start the new season at Ang Mo Kio was short lived
as misfortune resulted in a gradual decrease of number of OUR balls.
Within the first 10 minutes three GAS III balls were shot over the perimeter fence
which triggered Christian to his first quote of the season,
being directed at a bewildered opponent: “And where are YOUR balls?”

Due to some late arrivals of ADI XI’s FC players, the game started at 11:14am.
Initial hopes to exploit the additional player in our team led to the first attack at 11:22am:
A nice through pass into the run of Steffen on the left side of the penalty box allowed him to pass by the goalkeeper,
who looked confused to say the least. Sadly the ball went little too far so that a finishing shot was not possible
and with a smooth back pass the game continued.
Two minutes later a quick sprint of a very agile and young – likely late teens - opponent player resulted in the 0:1.

11:35 – the one minute water break was extended to three minutes due to the blistering heat.
11:40 – our first corner was caught by the goalkeeper, still not looking solid though
11:41 – free kick opponent was faced by our four men wall, Jurek ultimately picking the ball with ease
11:42 – free kick for us, Steffen’s shot went in the opponent’s wall
11:45 – unplanned break due to another required ball replacement
11:46 to 11:52 – a very messy period with bad passes and uncool actions on both sides
11:53 – a close off side position resulted in a beautiful on-call foul by Markus in the penalty box
The resulting penalty kick went into the goal on the lower left corner, 0:2.
11:58 – seconds before the half time whistle another lucky shot from the right side of the penalty box
went into the left lower corner of our goal, 0:3.

The second half started with a period of good pressing and one-on-one battles especially in the midfield.
An attack over the right side resulted in Chris shooting at the outside net goal.
With a better eye sight he surely would have passed to either Basti or Thomas who both were free to slot in the ball,
also highlighting this with unmistakable gestures and loud noises.
Out of the blue we collected the 0:4, not really worth mentioning any details.
But we fought back and after Thomas and Chris tricked the opponent’s defence with their offside positions
while letting through the ball to Steffen – who bypassed the snail like goalkeeper and effortlessly pushed the ball over the line.
1:4 – plain sailing, captain Fabian!

Then all heaven broke loose, literally. It started raining cats and dogs which somehow made us more hectic and slowed our movements.
Standing alone in front of the goal, Thomas received a through ball from the left side via a throw in.
But instead of funnelling all is anger and converting finally, his shot went over the cross bar into the perimeter fence.
Furthermore, the opponent received a second penalty after another of their players could not hold the balance in front of last ‘man-of-steel’ Jurek.
The clumsy execution with a full stop of movement resulted in a cancellation, somehow no replay was considered.
This was likely due to the referee’s empathy, seeing our will to fight while being trapped in the body of a frump.
Well, with dwindling loss of energy we received another 3 goals. End result: 1:7.
Good things take time…and fun. Let’s do it together – X-League, here we come!
