“Team 1, starting with a new line-up, went behind early on after a fast combo followed by a close range shot from the left flank in the “roof” of our goal. Afterwards there were more shots on goal from the English but they were parried relatively easily while we were unlucky when our interceptions of their passes, notably by Jos, could just not find a team mate or the opponent’s net , often with their keeper on the half way line)l. They, on the contrary made us pay after intercepting Andy’s pass to Flo. 2-0 for them but with Andy hitting the post and Flo missing by inches from the left, it could have ended in a draw.
In the second match we had a huge opportunity to take the lead early on when an otherwise excellent Urs followed through on Jos’ low cross from the right but could not keep his shot down. When we went behind again, fatigue and disappointment started to lead to lack of tactical discipline, resulting in a flurry of English goals after individual errors. At the same time our bad luck continued with Andy hitting the post again, with several close-range shots saved and with lack of precision and cool heads preventing us from scoring from some fast counters until Jos finally and clinically punished them for losing the ball deep in our half. It ended 5-1 for them but on another day the result might have been very different because at no point in the game were we outplayed. Taking this into account, some nervous outbursts during and after the match are understandable and show our passion but I guess next time we should try to stick to our gameplan, even in the face of adversity and bad luck.”
