Exciting game with the better end for Pirates

A game which was close to being called off due to a heavy rain shower eventually took place with 30min delay. Both teams were eager to play, Pirates with what seemed to be a full squad, GSOS especially missing their whole central defense. Luckily our top recruiter Andy the Belgian Dandy magically produced a comeback of former Swiss FC stalwart Simone Bobbia. And right away he put up a Man of the Match performance, literally winning all challenges, simply unbeatable in the air although challenged by a tall Pirates striking partnership. Could we convince him to play more often even though he is in constant pain after playing? We certainly hope so.
Pirates certainly had a better start into the game and right away showed why there are last year's champions. Solid in all departments with a few standouts in Dave at the back (my Man of the Match for Pirates), Gura the league MVP marshaling the midfield and the 2 strikers upfront. However, GSOS clawed their way back into the game around Simone, Michael, Alp and Jos who put in a top workload and started to dominate play in the 2nd half. GSOS coming back to a 2 all but then missed several chances before conceding in unfortunate circumstances. 4th goal for Pirates sucked out the rest of the air left in our lungs. Disappointed but happy with the performance we put in, knowing we can compete with any team in the league on our day. In the end not many points to show though after 4 games into the season...probably nice timing to have a friendly next Saturday, March 14th at 4pm at GESS. Chance to try out a few things agains Hibs Vets 2nd team and maybe get some confidence and some finishing touches in.
