Latini is always a tough opponent, even more so when Sharples takes to the field. He has been the leading goal scorer in the league for a few years, and is every defender's nightmare.
But to let him score three goals inside the first 20 minutes is a bit too much. A bit of defensive reshuffling did not really help, and we only stabilized the team when we moved to a 4-4-2 without the diamond. The second half of the first half was much improved and we pulled a goal back when Benji finished a very nice build up from Laurent to Florian, who set up Benji for the consolation goal.
That this goal would remain our consolation goal was not really necessary. We had plenty of chances in the second half, when the game was very balanced. We probably had the better chances, but did not take them. On the other hand, Joe had some spectacular saves. What's new?
Lessons to be learnt: 1) a game starts when the referee blows his whistle. 2) we need to defend smarter against "star strikers", i.e. push them wide, and provide for cover 3) training attendance needs to improve....
